join the calgary roller derby

The Calgary Roller Derby Association holds recruiting nights periodically throughout the year. Join us for one of these sessions if you are interested in being a skater, referee, or support staff volunteer.

Want to be a derby girl? We highly recommend that you get out and skate as much as possible prior to trying out for the league – Lloyd’s Roller Rink is a great place to start! Contact recruiting@calgaryrollerderby.com for more information on our next recruiting drive and tryouts.

  • Skaters must be female and over 18 years old.
  • Volunteers for referee positions must be over 18 years old. There are no restrictions for other support staff positions, but parental consent must be given.
  • It is HIGHLY recommended that all girls trying out as skaters do their best to obtain proper gear. Quad roller skates are the ABSOLUTE minimum required. ELBOW PADS, KNEE PADS, HELMET, MOUTH GUARD, and WRIST GUARDS are mandatory as soon as you begin practicing with us. Good sources for equipment are Rollergirl, Sin City Skates, and Viaderby.
  • Referees may choose to wear quad or in-line skates.
  • There is a $5.00 drop in fee for new skaters (capped at $30/month) for a three month period. After completing the three month probationary period, skaters are required to pay monthly dues of $30.00 per month.
  • Once you are a referee or skater member, you will be required to get insurance to skate with us. This insurance is $55.00 per year through Roller Sports Canada.

COACHES:

Roller Derby is Back!

The Calgary Roller Derby Association is part of the recent flat-track roller derby revival, and our league has just celebrated our one year anniversary of bringing fun, no-holes-barred derby action to the Calgary public. We are growing quickly, and looking for more support staff to help train and coach our skaters.

Are you interested in coaching roller derby? We are putting the call out to the Calgary community, searching for qualified men and women who are interested in contributing to the league. This is a chance for you to get involved in a fantastic, burgeoning, grass-roots movement that is sure to become a staple of the Calgary sports diet in the very near future.

We are looking for coaches who have experience with hockey, ringette, or speed skating who are willing to learn the ins-and-outs of roller derby and help us become the best league in North America! We currently have 3 teams and a group of new recruits needing coaches.
